Gardens and Bike Share
Since its inception in 2018 the Highlands Partnership Network has focused on building connections and growing community in the Highlands area of the upper Allegheny Valley. We have focused on networking between community organizations, capacity building, and advocacy opportunities for our neighbors. These efforts have primarily been centered on food and transportation access. Our project proposal will allow us to address both of these issues as we create a local network of complementary community agriculture sites that also anchor a bike share program. With this funding we will establish a flagship suburban farm site that will act as a community learning space as well as a primary support partner for the community gardens via tool and equipment borrowing and storage as well as planning, community programming, leadership coordination, and workforce development. Additionally, in partnership with Red Lantern Bike Shop, we will pilot a bike-share program with stations installed at two of the existing community gardens.
